The McLaren MP4-31 is the Formula One racing car that McLaren designed to compete in the 2016 season, driven by Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button, with reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne replacing Alonso at the Bahrain Grand Prix after his accident at the Australian Grand Prix. It used the Honda RA616H power unit, the second engine Honda developed since returning to the sport with McLaren in 2015, and development of the MP4-30 was shifted to help it. Despite reliability issues it was an improvement on its predecessor and finished sixth in the Constructors Championship. It was the final McLaren to use the MP4 prefix, following the departure of CEO Ron Dennis, and the last to use ExxonMobil fuel and lubricants.
