The McLaren MP4/3 was the car with which the McLaren team contested the 1987 Formula One World Championship. Steve Nichols led the design with Neil Oatley, Gordon Kimball, Tim Wright and Bob Bell, and the low-slung bodywork was shaped around the 195 litre fuel limit. It carried the 1.5 litre Porsche-built, TAG-funded twin-turbo V6 and was the last McLaren to use that engine. Alain Prost won three Grands Prix in it, in Brazil, Belgium and Portugal, the last of which made him the most successful winner in Formula One history to that date, and McLaren finished second in the constructors standings. Five chassis were moulded, and three survive.
