McLaren MP4-29

Automobiles

The McLaren MP4-29 was the Formula One racing car that McLaren designed and built for the 2014 season, powered by a customer Mercedes-Benz powertrain. Tim Goss, Neil Oatley, Matt Morris, Mark Ingham and Marcin Budkowski designed the chassis. It was unveiled on 24 January 2014 and driven by Jenson Button and debutant Kevin Magnussen, who replaced Sergio Pérez. It was designed around the new Mercedes 1.6-litre V6 turbocharged PU106A Hybrid engine, making it the first turbo-powered McLaren since the Honda engined MP4/4 of 1988. It was the most mechanically reliable car of the season, with 36 classified finishes from a possible 38, and the last McLaren powered by Mercedes until the MCL35M in 2021.
