McLaren MP4-23

Automobiles

The McLaren MP4-23 was a Formula One racing car constructed by the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team for the 2008 Formula One World Championship. Paddy Lowe, Neil Oatley, Tim Goss, Andrew Bailey and Simon Lacey designed the chassis and Andy Cowell designed the Mercedes-Benz engine. It was revealed in Stuttgart on 7 January 2008 and first ran at Jerez two days later. With Lewis Hamilton it won the drivers championship, while McLaren finished second to Ferrari in the constructors standings. It was the first McLaren to run without traction control since 2001, and its generation of complex aerodynamic appendages was banned for 2009.
