The McLaren MP4-22 is the Formula One racing car that the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team built for the 2007 World Championship. Paddy Lowe, Neil Oatley, Pat Fry, Mike Coughlan and Simon Lacey designed the chassis, with Andy Cowell and Markus Duesmann designing the bespoke Mercedes-Benz engine. It was revealed in testing at Valencia on 15 January 2007 and driven by double world champion Fernando Alonso and debutant Lewis Hamilton. The car proved one of the most competitive of the season and each driver won four races, but a fierce rivalry between them and the 2007 espionage controversy cost McLaren both championships to Ferrari. It was the first McLaren on Bridgestone tyres since the MP4-16 of 2001.
