The McLaren MP4-21 was the car with which McLaren competed in the 2006 Formula One World Championship. It was driven first by Kimi Räikkönen and Juan Pablo Montoya, and after ten races reserve driver Pedro de la Rosa took over the seat of Montoya, who left to race in NASCAR. Adrian Newey, Paddy Lowe, Tim Goss, Mike Coughlan and Peter Prodromou designed it, with 90 percent of the components changed from the MP4-20, and it was the first V8 engined McLaren since the MP4/8 of 1993. It was also the first McLaren powered purely by Mercedes-Benz engines. Lewis Hamilton drove it in his first official Formula One test in September 2006.
