The McLaren MCL40 is the Formula One car that McLaren designed and built under the direction of Rob Marshall for the 2026 World Championship. Reigning world champion Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri drive it, in their eighth and fourth seasons with the team. It was built for a major change in the technical regulations that simplified the power unit, increased the share of energy from the electric motor and reduced the size, weight and downforce of the cars. Its engine supplier Mercedes AMG HPP was scrutinised over the winter for a compression ratio measurement loophole. According to the article, by the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix it had won two Grands Prix and taken three poles.
