The McLaren MCL36 was the Formula One car that McLaren built to contest the 2022 World Championship, the first season run to a new generation of technical regulations that had been postponed from 2021. It was designed under the lead of technical director James Key and was his first completely original car for the team. Its engine packaging was judged conventional, but it used a pull-rod front and push-rod rear suspension layout last seen on a Formula One car in 2013, and it escaped the porpoising that troubled many rivals. Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris drove it from the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix, and it scored two fastest laps and one podium, both by Norris, though it was generally regarded as a disappointment after the MCL35M.
