The McLaren M8 was a series of race cars developed by driver Bruce McLaren and his Bruce McLaren Motor Racing team for the 1968 Can-Am season, covering the M8A, M8B, M8C, M8D, M8E and later versions. The M8A and its successors dominated Can-Am racing for four consecutive seasons, until the Porsche 917/10 turbo arrived. The M8A was an evolution of the M6A and used an all-aluminium seven litre Chevrolet big-block V8 as a semi-stressed chassis member, initially developing 590 bhp. The M8B of 1969 mounted its rear wing high on pylons attached to the suspension uprights, and Trojan built customer versions such as the M8C and M8E.
