McLaren M3

Automobiles

The McLaren M3 was an open-wheel race car that the British manufacturer McLaren designed, developed and built in 1965. It was used mostly in Formula Libre racing but was versatile and competitive, and also appeared in hillclimb and sprint car racing. It used no particular engine and could take whatever the customer preferred, among them an Oldsmobile V8, a Ford FE, a Ford Indy V8, a Repco-Brabham V8, a Maserati V12 or a 2.5 to 2.7 litre Coventry Climax four-cylinder Formula One engine. The chassis was a tubular space frame with an aluminium panel body, with extra aluminium riveted and bolted to the underside for strength, and weighed about 500 kg.
