The McLaren M24 was a race car that McLaren designed and built between 1977 and 1979 for Indy car racing. It was the last McLaren IndyCar to date, because McLaren decided to withdraw from the CART IndyCar World Series after the 1979 USAC Championship Car and SCCA/CART Indy Car Series seasons in order to concentrate on its Formula One programme. The M24 followed the M15 and the very successful M16, which had won the Indianapolis 500 three times in the 1970s, and it closed the chapter of McLaren American open wheel racing that had begun in 1970.
