The McLaren M1A, with its derivatives the M1B and M1C, was a series of mid-engined Group 7 sports prototype race cars built by McLaren between 1963 and 1968. The M1A was the first sports car the team designed and developed itself, raced in North America and Europe in 1963 and 1964, and the later M1B and M1C competed in the North American Can-Am series from 1966. About 24 examples of the M1A and M1B and 25 of the M1C were built. A tubular space frame chassis kept weight to 551 kg, and engines included Chevrolet small-block and big-block units, an aluminium Oldsmobile V8 and a Ford FE, driving through a Hewland four-speed gearbox.
