The McLaren M15 was an open-wheel race car that the McLaren team designed and built for a single season of competition in 1970, and it was the first attempt by the team at making an Indy car. It was replaced the following year by the more successful McLaren M16, which went on to win the Indianapolis 500 three times, in 1972, 1974 and 1976. The M15 therefore stands at the start of the McLaren American open wheel programme, which ran until the team withdrew from Indy car racing after 1979 to concentrate on its Formula One effort.
