Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II

Military Aircraft

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat, single-engine, supersonic stealth strike fighters built by Lockheed Martin with Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems as partners. It descends from the X-35 demonstrator that won the Joint Strike Fighter competition against the Boeing X-32 in 2001, and it is produced in three main variants: the conventional takeoff and landing F-35A, the short take-off and vertical-landing F-35B, and the carrier-based F-35C. First flown in 2006, the variants entered United States service between 2015 and 2019, and the aircraft has since been exported across NATO and to other partners, with 883 aircraft in service as of 2025. Its size, cost growth and delayed deliveries have made it one of the most debated procurement programs in aviation.
