The Lockheed C-141 Starlifter is a four engine jet military transport aircraft that entered United States Air Force service in 1965, among the first jet powered strategic airlifters to replace slower piston and turboprop transports. It served as a primary long range troop and cargo carrier for the Air Force for four decades, including during the Vietnam War and the Gulf War, before being retired in 2006 and succeeded by the C-17.
