Lima-Hamilton 2500HP Transfer Locomotive

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The Lima-Hamilton 2500HP Transfer Locomotive, specification number A-3177 and known to enthusiasts as the LT-2500, was a diesel-electric transfer unit built between 1950 and 1951. It was the last locomotive model Lima-Hamilton produced before its merger with the Baldwin Locomotive Works in September 1951 created Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton. All twenty-two units were ordered by the Pennsylvania Railroad, and the final one, number 5683, was finished on September 12, 1951, one day after the merger. The railroad had wanted twenty-two more but agreed to take twenty-three Baldwin RT-624 locomotives in their place. Every LT-2500 was scrapped, the last three being retired by 1967.
