Lima 750 and 800 hp switchers

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The Lima 750 and 800 hp switchers were two closely related diesel-electric switching locomotives that Lima-Hamilton built at Lima, Ohio, between November 1949 and June 1951. Specification A-3149 was the 750 horsepower version and A-3171 the 800 horsepower one, reached by changing fuel rack settings on the same turbocharged Hamilton T69SA six cylinder engine, with a Westinghouse generator and four Westinghouse traction motors. Six A-3149 units all went to Cincinnati Union Terminal, while the twenty-three A-3171 units were sold to the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific and the Chicago River and Indiana. The LS-750 and LS-800 names are railfan inventions. The last A-3149 runs on the Whitewater Valley Railroad.
