The Ligier JS9 was a Formula One racing car manufactured and raced by Ligier during the 1978 Formula One season. Driven by the Frenchman Jacques Laffite, its best finish was third, achieved twice. It was the car that carried the French team through its third year in Grand Prix racing, following the JS5 of 1976 and the JS7, and it preceded the ground-effect JS11 that made Ligier a front-running team in 1979. Like every Ligier car of the period it carries the JS prefix in memory of Jo Schlesser, killed in the 1968 French Grand Prix.
