Leyland Panther Cub

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Leyland Panther Cub was a rear-engined single-decker bus made by Leyland between 1964 and 1968, a shorter derivative of the Panther built at the request of Manchester Corporation Transport, which wanted 20 buses 33 feet long. Only 94 were built for operators in England and Wales. It competed directly with the Daimler Roadliner. The steel-channel ladder frame was about two feet shorter than the Panther, with a 16.6 foot wheelbase, and because of rear-overhang rules the smaller 0.400H engine was fitted instead of the Panther 0.600H, along with Tiger Cub units such as the pneumocyclic gearbox, brakes and axles, which made it almost a tonne lighter.
