Leyland Panther

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Leyland Panther was a rear-engined single-decker bus chassis made by Leyland from 1964 to 1972, with a smaller-engined version sold as the Panther Cub. In all, over 600 Panthers were built for operators in the United Kingdom and about 700 chassis for export. Sunderland Corporation ordered 30 with Strachans bodies in 1965 and had 90 by 1971, Liverpool City Transport took 110 with Metro Cammell Weymann bodywork, Southport 22 with Marshall bodies, and Preston 41, including the last six built. Hull took twelve with Roe bodywork, the first having been shown at the 1964 Commercial Motor Show, and East Yorkshire and West Riding also bought Marshall-bodied cars.
