Leyland Atlantean

The Leyland Atlantean is a double decker bus chassis introduced in 1958 by Leyland Motors of Lancashire, built with its engine mounted at the rear rather than at the front as on earlier British double deckers. Moving the engine to the rear freed the front of the bus for a low entrance and an open staircase with no engine box to walk around, a layout that quickly became the standard configuration for double decker buses across Britain, and the Atlantean itself was operated in large numbers by municipal and company bus fleets throughout the country.
