The Lancia Kappa, Type 838, was the Italian marque's executive car of the 1990s, built from August 1994 to July 2000 and unveiled at the 1994 Paris Auto Show. It was a five-seat, front-engine, front-wheel-drive car that shared its platform with the Alfa Romeo 166, and it was made in saloon, estate and coupe forms; the estate was built by Pininfarina and the coupe by Maggiora, and both were rarer than the saloon. Engines ranged from a four-cylinder turbo through five-cylinder petrol and turbodiesel units to the Busso V6. Production reached 117,216 cars over six years, and the name revived the Kappa that Lancia had used in 1919.
