The Lancia Appia Zagato was the sporting coupe version of the Lancia Appia, produced from 1956 to 1963. Until December 1958, when the GTE appeared, the earliest cars are better regarded as special bodies on the Appia chassis than as a model that Lancia itself built or sold. The first, the 1956 Appia Cammello shown at the Turin show in April 1956, took its nickname from the humps on its roof, bonnet and boot lid, and it began a line of sporting berlinettas that stayed on the competition scene for nearly a decade. They used the Appia's 1,089 cc four-cylinder V engine, rated at 53 horsepower in its first form.
