Lanchester 8 hp Phaeton

Automobiles

The Lanchester 8 hp Phaeton was a brass era automobile designed by Frederick W. Lanchester and developed and built by the Lanchester Motor Company between 1895 and 1900. It was notably the first production vehicle to be powered by a flat twin-cylinder engine. Its infobox lists an air cooled twin cylinder engine of 2895 cc, an epicyclic gearbox and individually coachbuilt bodies. The Lanchester company, a British car manufacturer in trade from 1899 to 1955, was later bought by BSA, its cars were then made by Daimler, and it became part of Jaguar Cars with Daimler in 1960, so this first Lanchester car belongs to the history of Jaguar Land Rover.
