Lanchester 10

Automobiles

The Lanchester 10, or Lanchester Ten, was a model of car produced by the Lanchester Motor Company intermittently from 1900 until 1951 and the first production car the company offered for sale. The name referred to the car's fiscal horsepower, which was a function of the cylinder diameter, a British tax measure with no arithmetical link to actual power, so a Ten of the 1950s was about the size of the Ford Model C Ten, the Morris Ten or the Standard Ten. The original Ten of 1900 to 1904 was designed by Frederick Lanchester, the eldest of the three Lanchester brothers, while his brother George took responsibility for the production processes. It had an air cooled twin cylinder engine of 4033 cc and individually coachbuilt bodies on a 93 inch wheelbase.
