Lagonda LG6

Automobiles

The Lagonda LG6 is a large car produced by the British Lagonda company from 1937 until 1940 and announced at the 1937 London Motor Show. Its chassis was very similar to that of the Lagonda V12 but longer by 3.5 inches to suit the longer engine, with independent torsion bar suspension at the front, a live rear axle with spiral bevel final drive and Lockheed hydraulic brakes, all upgrades over the earlier LG45. The 4453 cc straight-six engine with pushrod operated overhead valves was bought in from Henry Meadows of Wolverhampton and had been used in the M45 and LG45, driving the rear wheels through a single dry plate clutch and a four-speed gearbox. Standard coachwork included saloon, tourer, coupe and sedanca styles, and 67 short chassis and 18 long chassis were made. It can be told from the V12 by the twin long trumpet horns on either side of the radiator grille. One car sold to the Netherlands was later confiscated for use by Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery and became part of Prince Bernhard's collection.
