Jaguar XJR-6

Automobiles

The Jaguar XJR-6 was a Group C sports prototype race car designed, developed and built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing to compete from 1985 in the World Sportscar Championship. TWR was recruited by Jaguar after its success with the XJS in the European Touring Car Championship. Designer Tony Southgate drew on his Ford C100 work for a carbon-fibre monocoque with ground-effect venturi tunnels, and the Jaguar V12 was enlarged to 6.2 litres with fuel injection to give 660 bhp. It made its debut late in 1985 at the 1000 Kilometres of Mosport, finishing third, and in 1986 under Silk Cut sponsorship it won at Silverstone. Six were built, and Jaguar replaced them with the XJR-8 after the 1986 season.
