The Jaguar S-Type was an executive car that Jaguar Cars made from 1999 until 2007, with a facelift in 2004, a four-door saloon with a three-box design and a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. It debuted at the Birmingham Motor Show on 20 October 1998 and revived a nameplate Jaguar had used from 1963 to 1968. A smaller saloon planned in the early 1990s was shelved when Ford took over Jaguar in 1989 and revived a few years later, and the car, styled by Geoff Lawson in 1995, was built at Castle Bromwich in Birmingham on the DEW98 platform shared with the Lincoln LS and the eleventh-generation Ford Thunderbird. Powertrains included the 4.0 litre Jaguar AJ-V8, enlarged to 4.2 litres for 2003, and V6 petrol engines developed into the Ford Duratec, with a 2.7 litre twin-turbo V6 diesel added with the 2004 facelift and a six-speed ZF automatic from 2003. A total of 291,386 were produced, and the Jaguar XF, on a modified version of the same platform, replaced it.
