Isuzu 117 Coupé

Automobiles

The Isuzu 117 Coupé is a compact two-door fastback grand tourer that Isuzu built in Japan from 1968 to 1981. Giorgetto Giugiaro styled it, and it was shown as a prototype at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show and then at the Tokyo Motor Show the same year. The first cars were made largely by hand at rarely more than fifty a month and used a 1.6 litre twin-cam four-cylinder engine, and in 1970 a Bosch electronic fuel injection version arrived, the first on a Japanese car. After Isuzu began working with General Motors, production moved to a proper line in March 1973, and a diesel version was added in 1979. Isuzu built 86,192 of them before the Piazza took its place. It shared its rear-drive chassis with the Isuzu Florian sedan and served as a showpiece to bring buyers into showrooms.
