Honda built the S800 as a sports car. Honda showed the S800 at the 1965 Tokyo Motor Show as the successor to the successful S600, in the role of the company's image car. With a redline of 8,500 rpm it is one of the highest revving sports cars produced for street use, and its 791 cc straight four produced 70 hp at 8000 rpm, making it Honda's first 100 mph automobile. It was available as either a coupe or roadster and competed with the Austin-Healey Sprite, MG Midget, Triumph Spitfire, Datsun Fairlady and Fiat 850 Spider. Production ended in May 1970 with 11,536 S800s produced. This site lists a page for every model year in the span covered here, each focused on what changed in that year, grouped into one generation: the single generation (1966 to 1970 model years). Each year page links to its generation, to this model page, to the previous model year and to Honda.
