Honda made the eighth-generation Civic, a family of compact cars, from 2005 to 2012, offering sedan, coupe and three- and five-door hatchback bodies, with the hatchbacks sold as their own range in Europe. The North American sedan arrived in September 2005 for the 2006 model year, and the generation introduced the Type R in sedan and hatchback forms (the sedan sold only in Japan and a few Asian markets) and a Civic Hybrid with a continuously variable transmission. It was named 2006 North American Car of the Year and Motor Trend Car of the Year, and a refresh came for the 2009 model year. Each model year, 2006 to 2011, has its own page.
