Honda CBR400

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The CBR400 is a small capacity sport motorcycle for the Japanese domestic market, part of the CBR series that Honda introduced in 1983, and the first Honda motorcycle to wear a CBR badge. The CBR400R, code NC17, a naked bike, was launched in December 1983 with a four-valve, liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four engine with a rotational-speed valve stop mechanism, a prototype of Honda's VTEC system, that changed from two valves to four valves at 9,500 rpm. The CBR400RR followed from 1988, and in 2013 Honda released a new twin-cylinder CBR400R. This site lists a page for every model year in the span covered here, each focused on what changed in that year, grouped into 3 generations: the CBR400R and CBR400F, NC17 (1983 to 1987 model years); the CBR400RR, NC23 and NC29 (1988 to 1994 model years); the twin-cylinder CBR400R (2013 model year onward). Each year page links to its generation, to this model page, to the previous model year and to Honda.
