The CBR400RR-J of 1988, models NC23 and NC29, carried the name Tri-Arm on its bodywork, along with Hurricane. The NC23 CBR400RR has a standard frame of extruded beams, the rear of the seat unit slopes forward, and the seat unit subframe is completely separate from the main chassis. The main rails are of a cranked design and the swingarm has a gull-wing shape on one side to give ground clearance for the exhaust link pipe.
