The Hitachi Rail Italy Driverless Metro is a class of driverless electric multiple units, together with a matching signalling system, made in Italy by Hitachi Rail Italy (formerly AnsaldoBreda) and Hitachi Rail STS. The first system to use it was the Copenhagen Metro, opened in 2002. Trains have two to six articulated cars on standard gauge, built from standardized car bodies designed by Giugiaro Design. Most systems feed them from a 750 V DC third rail, while Rome uses a 1,500 V overhead line. Top speeds run from 80 to 105 km/h. The class is in use or planned for Copenhagen, Brescia, Thessaloniki, lines 4 and 5 of the Milan Metro, Line C of the Rome Metro, the Honolulu Skyline, the Circular line of the New Taipei Metro and a university people mover.
