The Guy Ant was a four-wheel, 15 hundredweight truck from Guy Motors of Wolverhampton, listed in the maker's products as a general service and wireless truck with two-wheel drive. Guy submitted it to military trials in 1935, where it impressed so much that the government ordered 150. After this success Guy concentrated on military vehicles and by 1938 depended entirely on government contracts, having ended civilian production. The Ant was followed by a four-wheel-drive version, the Quad Ant, built as an artillery tractor and as a general service truck. Guy also based its welded armoured car on the Quad Ant, and in doing so developed welding techniques that made armoured vehicles safer and cheaper to build.
