The Grumman XTB2F, known in the text as the TB2F, was a cancelled twin-engined torpedo bomber project that Grumman designed in 1944 as the successor to the successful TBF Avenger. It was drawn up while the Midway class aircraft carriers were under construction, with a crew of three, two Pratt and Whitney Double Wasp radial engines and a folding wing of about 74 feet in span. The Navy soon concluded that an aircraft of this size would be impractical to operate efficiently from a carrier, and the plans were shelved after only a mockup had been constructed. Its contract was later changed to the smaller XTSF, and the Navy ordered the single-engined AF Guardian instead.
