The Grumman S-2 Tracker, called the S2F before 1962, was the first purpose-built, single-airframe anti-submarine warfare aircraft to enter United States Navy service. Grumman gave it a conventional design with twin radial engines, a high wing that folded for carrier stowage and a tricycle undercarriage, and it combined the search and attack roles that the earlier AF Guardian split between two aircraft. It first flew on 4 December 1952 and entered squadron service with VS-26 in February 1954. Grumman built 1,185 Trackers and de Havilland Canada built another 99 under license; many navies flew it, and the last two Argentine aircraft left service in November 2025.
