The Grumman OV-1 Mohawk is an armed twin-turboprop observation and attack aircraft designed for battlefield surveillance, light strike and transport work with the United States Army. It grew out of a joint Army and Marine program of the 1950s, seats two crew side by side, and was meant to operate from short, unimproved runways in support of Army maneuver forces. Grumman's G-134 design won the competition, the prototype made its maiden flight on 14 April 1959, and the type entered production in October 1959. Roughly 380 were built across all variants, and Army OV-1s left service in the United States in 1996.
