The Gloster Gamecock was a single-seat biplane fighter developed from the Grebe to Air Ministry Specification 37/23, with a Bristol Jupiter radial engine replacing the unreliable Armstrong Siddeley Jaguar and machine guns moved inside the fuselage. The prototype first flew on 22 February 1925 and 30 production aircraft were ordered that September. The Gamecock entered service in 1926, was loved for its agility and air show aerobatics, but crashed often; 22 of the 90 RAF aircraft were lost in landing or spin accidents. Finland built the improved Mark II under licence as the Kukko, flew it in the Winter War and kept the last one until 1944.
