Ford Thames 300E

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Ford Thames 300E was a car-derived panel van that Ford UK built from July 1954 to April 1961, one of the range of commercial vehicles sold under the Thames name. It was based on the Ford Anglia and Prefect 100E saloons and shared its bodyshell and 1,172 cc sidevalve four-cylinder engine with the Ford Escort and Ford Squire estate cars of that line, the shell being optimised for use as a panel van with two short passenger doors and a shorter overall length than the saloons. It began as a single model with a 5 hundredweight carrying capacity and was later joined by Standard and Deluxe 7 hundredweight variants, all with the same 66 cubic foot load volume. Production totalled 196,885, made up of 139,267 of the 5 hundredweight, 10,056 Standard 7 hundredweight and 47,562 Deluxe 7 hundredweight, and the Anglia 105E-based Thames 307E replaced it in June 1961.
