The Fiat 639 was a medium-tonnage lorry with permanent four-wheel drive, built by the Italian maker Fiat V.I. from 1950. It came in two variants: a civilian line labelled 639N to 639N3 and a military line designated CM50, CM52, CM55 and CM56, where CM stands for autoCarro Medio and the number gives the model year. The 639N took the robust chassis of the older Fiat 640 but received the new Fiat 364 engine of six litres of displacement. It had the first-generation forward-control Fiat cab nicknamed baffo, ranked among the most appreciated trucks of its class and stayed in production for more than fifteen years.
