The Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar is an American twin boom military transport aircraft that entered United States Air Force service in 1949, developed from the earlier C-82 Packet with a lower, more accessible cargo floor and more powerful engines. Its boxy fuselage and twin tail booms, which gave the aircraft its nickname, allowed vehicles and paratroopers to be loaded and dropped directly from the rear, and it saw extensive service in the Korean War and later conflicts.
