The EMU3000 series is a series of electric multiple unit trains operated by the Taiwan Railway Corporation and built by Hitachi Rail as inter-city trains. They entered passenger service on 29 December 2021. The trains were bought as part of the Taiwan Railways Administration plan to replace its ageing fleet by 2024 and to add capacity in Eastern Taiwan, where tickets often sell out around major holidays. Hitachi won the bidding against Stadler in December 2018 and a contract for NT$44.3 billion was signed in January 2019. The trains are assembled at the Kasado Plant in Kudamatsu, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and the first one was unloaded at the Port of Hualien on 31 July 2021. Each train runs in a 12-car formation with 538 seats and a business class car called the Teng-yun Cabin, and unlike earlier Taiwanese inter-city trains it has no tilting mechanism.
