The DS 4 is a compact hatchback and the second model of the DS luxury sub-brand created by Citroën. The first generation, based on the Citroën C4 II, was launched internationally in March 2011 with raised suspension to resemble a compact SUV and repositioned door handles that give it a coupé like silhouette. Its petrol engines were developed in collaboration between PSA and BMW, and Citroën initially offered two diesel engines. After the 2015 facelift it was sold by DS Automobiles without Citroën badges and gained a DS 4 Crossback variant, and production of the first generation ended in April 2018. The second generation, from 2021, uses the EMP2 platform shared with the Opel Astra L and the Peugeot 308 III and sits above the DS 3 and below the DS 7 Crossback.
