The Dornier Do 317 was a prototype German medium bomber of the Second World War, planned in 1939 as a development of the Do 217 with a pressurized cabin and more powerful engines and submitted for the Bomber B project. Two versions were proposed, the simpler Do 317A with two Daimler-Benz DB 603A engines and the Do 317B with heavy coupled DB 610 power systems and remotely aimed turrets. Engines such as the DB 604 and Jumo 222 failed to reach production, so the Do 317 had to use less powerful ones. The Do 317 V1 began flight tests on 8 September 1943 and showed no real advance over the Do 217, and the other five prototypes were completed as unpressurised Do 217Rs.
