The second generation Stratus sedan and its Chrysler Sebring sedan counterpart were built on a revised version of the JA platform, internally designated JR, and a coupe was added for the 2001 model year, replacing the Avenger two door. The Cirrus was rebranded as the Chrysler Sebring and the Plymouth brand was discontinued, so the Stratus became the sole remaining cloud car in Dodge's lineup. The coupe was built by Mitsubishi at the former Diamond Star Motors plant. Its model years run from 2001 to 2006.
