The Dallara DW12, formally named the Dallara IR-12, is the open-wheel racing car chassis built by the Italian manufacturer Dallara for the teams of the IndyCar Series. It was first used in the 2012 season, replacing the nine-year-old Dallara IR-05, and was chosen under the series ICONIC plan, which accepted the Dallara proposal in July 2010 and capped the price of the core chassis, called the IndyCar Safety Cell, at 349,000 dollars. The car carries the letters DW in honour of Dan Wheldon, the chassis test driver who was killed in the final race of 2011 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, following the naming practice of the old Ligier team. It added safety features such as a partial enclosure around the rear wheels and a redesigned front section. Teams fitted a Dallara aero kit from 2012, manufacturer kits from Honda and Chevrolet from 2015 and a universal aero kit, the UAK-18, from 2018, and its retirement has been pushed back to the 2028 season.
