The Citroen ZX is a small family car produced by the French manufacturer Citroen between 1991 and 1998. At the start of the 1990s it was Citroen's entry in the class dominated in Europe by the Ford Escort and the Vauxhall and Opel Astra, a segment the company had briefly left when the GSA ended in 1986. Development began on a new C segment hatchback first expected to be called the Citroen FX, and the ZX was officially launched on the left-hand drive continental markets on 16 March 1991, with British sales beginning in May. The diesel version followed later in 1991, and the ZX chassis was reused for the Peugeot 306. The Xsara replaced it in September 1997.
