The Citroen XM is an executive car that Citroen made from 1989 to 2000 as the company's flagship saloon, replacing the CX. Launched on 23 May 1989 and sold in France immediately afterwards, it was voted 1990 European Car of the Year and was the first production automobile in the world with electronically controlled hydropneumatic suspension. It also had a partially galvanised body shell and the option of a 3.0 litre V6 engine. An estate, built by Heuliez, followed in spring 1991. The XM did not match the commercial success of the CX and DS, and with sales in decline Citroen ended production in 2000 after 333,405 cars, 31,035 of them estates.
