The Citroen Mehari is a lightweight recreational and utility vehicle that the French carmaker Citroen built in a single generation from 1968 to 1988. Its bodywork is moulded from ABS plastic, with removable doors and a foldable fabric top, on the fully independent chassis of the Citroen A-series cars and powered by the 602 cc air-cooled flat-twin petrol engine shared with the 2CV, Dyane and Ami. A four-wheel drive variant was sold from 1980 to 1983. It was designed by the wartime fighter ace Count Roland de la Poype of the supplier SEAB, who set out to improve on the Mini Moke, and it is named after the fast-running dromedary camel. Citroen made 144,953 of them, and the French Army bought 7,064.
